“Will this thermostat work for a normal heat only system on a old round dial thermostat?”

No it will not. Old round (Yo-yo style) thermostats rarely have power going to them. The way I installed mine was I bought a separate plug in 24 volt transformer(Amazon) and wired it in to the proper terminals. If you are not savvy with doing this type.of work you can either call a heating guy or an electrician to assist you. with your install!
