- Answer Depends which filter you're talking about, there is the pre filter that takes about 4-7 months till its no good, and the hepa filter which takes 2-3 years to change. They not to expensive as well, the price is good.

- Answer Yes, ok for birds. Neither HEPA nor prefilters give off volitiles. Be careful not to let birds land on top, due to unsightly poop.
