Please try again later.yes. 1) When the canister is removed, the base unit has no power for the brush. 2) if you stand the unit upright the brush turns off automatically so it doesn't run while you are using the hose 3) there is also a switch to turn the brushroll off if you are sweeping hardfloors or if you have any other reason for the brush to be off.
