• You're kidding, right? The top "locks on" when in use. (You fill contents into the bowl. )

• Hello Petunia, The dirt cup on this unit is sealed, so it will be able to hold debris in the cup until needing to empty into the waste bin. Thank you! Matt - Hoover Team

• I haven't used the vacuum for bugs so I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe they would be able to crawl out. The waste cup is small (probably holds maybe a 1/2 cup), but it seems to be sealed well. I haven't noticed any dust or debris getting out of it. Also, it's easy to dump.
