Depending on what exactly you're studying, this Chromebook may be a good choice for you. Because you can only download and install apps from the Chrome store, if any of your classes require software that's not available there, you'd need a conventional Windows laptop. Also, the storage is somewhat limited, so at some point you'll probably need a micro SD card to go into the available slot to give you more storage.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is not a good laptop for students. The only thing that Chromebooks can do is show web sites. Some web sites offer things like word processing or presentations, but students may need better ones than the basic ones like google docs. they may need to install programs like IDE for software dev, or good astronomy software, or good note taking, or good 3d modeling, or good animation, or a good DAW for music making, or a real VPN, or terabytes of storage, or good photo editing, or good video editing. None of this is available on web sites. Students need a laptop with a real OS like windows or MacOS. ChromeOS is good only for children under the age of 12.

Some college courses are only available online, and due to that, some of these classes have qualifications based on processing speed and RAM. Make sure that the classes you or your child will be taking can work with 1.1 gHz processor and 4 gB RAM. I just had to back out of a marketing class because they require your laptop to have a 64 bit dual processor and 8 gB RAM. For storage I highly recommend buying or obtaining a terrabyte hard drive that you can connect via USB drive. You can also use smaller flash drives as well for storing information. If you're a photographer, you would need to have an SD card converter to use this computer, unless file sharing is supported by your camera. The SD card reader built into the laptop is the medium dimension SD card, NOT a micro SD card. Micro SD fits into most cell phones (not iPhone, most androids), the SD card in your camera is much larger than the port built into this laptop. For me this is mostly a perfect fit, affordable. Great battery life and very user friendly. No pointless technology that confuses the user like in most mac OS and Windows 10+ OS. Very simple. Works very similarly to any android smart phone actually. In the play store, you download the mobile version of the apps because the PC is so small! I have 0 complaints about this PC.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My experience with Chromebooks is limited, but I must say that there are many who are prejudiced against them and provide advice and reviews based on that prejudice. I wouldn't try editing video files on a Chromebook, but it is fine for taking notes, writing papers, working on spreadsheets (do students have to use spreadsheets?), and a number of other activities besides web browsing and emails. Plus, the battery life is on par with more expensive PCs, which is certainly a factor to consider when you may be in a lecture room of 100+ with a handful of electrical outlets. I have a 14" HP Windows-based laptop that has 10 hours plus of battery life, but to get that, I have to add an optional extra battery, making it more than unwieldy as far as weight is concerned, and it cost around three times the LIST price of this Chromebook, never mind the sale price.
