When it comes to sound, it is often best to hear a demo unit when possible. The speakers being on the bottom often helps make extra room for the keyboard. The sound is usually not heavily affected by it. They do go through a lot of tests making sure that they can be clearly heard. Other factors can have an impact such as the surface you put it on.
