Yes. USB 3 or a USB-C hard drive should work fine. I had to add a USB-C hub for about $30, to make this laptop work for me best, because I like to close it and use a bigger monitor and keyboard. I have a wired mouse and keyboard taking up the 2 ports on the right. The hub lets me add my external USB 3 hard drives and a printer and flash drives. I tried using my USB-C phone charging cable with my old hard drive. It wouldn't power it. The hub does power it though.
