• Hi James, thanks for your question. You can add an externalal SSD or hard drive with the USB-C port of this HP laptop.

• Agree with HP on all counts. However, note that neither an NVME drive nor a SATA connector SSD drive will operate at its top speed with a USB C connector, although the SATA connector will come closest.
