“I bought this computer not knowing that it has a non-removable battery. I'm a little disappointed, however, is it possible to disable the battery and use the laptop while plugged. I would really like to preserve the life of the the battery.”

ASUS has a "max battery life" setting. It only allows a charge to 62% thereby conserving the battery. That is what I am using as I am usually on AC.
