• Use the mouse on the computer and not on the monitor. I think.

• Thank you for reaching out. Did you select "extend display" when adding the external monitor? Under the Multiple Displays section -> click on the drop-down list -> make sure Extend these displays option is selected. Your mouse should then function with both monitors. If this does not solve the problem, please reach out to Support.HP.com for assistance.
