Hope you got an answer by now, Barry, but if not, here's my answer: I also have an HPEnvy4500 printer that uses 61 black ink & I have been buying the 61XL black ink for longer use. It fits the same in the printer & works just as well. I asked one of the sales associates before I bought it just to make sure! I also have been using the 61XL color ink, which works great, too.

I have a HP Envy4500 printer. I always buy 61XL ink cartridge because it can last longer. The 61XL ink cartridge is easy to be installed in the printer.

The XL just means that the cartridge will print longer than the regular one.
