According to the support forums at HP, you can upgrade to an SSD and replace the existing hard drive. You do need to keep the original drive available in case you need to send the laptop to HP for service under warranty.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the HDD can easily be replaced with an SSD. I replaced with the Samsung EVO 850 1TB SSD. Here are detailed instructions on how to swap the drive. They worked perfectly for me: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-Envy-M7-n109dx-To-an-SSD/td-p/5394441 If you follow these instructions EXACTLY, the entire process should take no time at all, with no problems. However, remember that you will be doing this on a Windows 10 environment, so be sure to download the latest Data Migration software from Samsung, and also the latest version of Samsung Magician.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, and it's not very hard to do either. Use Google to find directions and video, complete job takes about 30 minutes or less, not counting installing OS and software. The changeover to SSD makes a huge, positive difference in speed. Boots faster (mine takes about 20-30 seconds, software, apps, internet all open and run faster. Nice upgrade for $100 or even less.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, but you will need to purchase a separate drive caddy and cable to install it in the second bay, as the caddy in use in the first bay will not fit in the second.
