It comes with ink cartridges, but you can sign up for hp instant ink and they send you cartridges when you get low.

Please try again later.The Envy 4520, and other related two-cartridge printers, have a feature called Single Cartridge Mode, which activates when the printer recognizes that a cartridge is empty, or has been removed. While it is optimum to print with both cartridges, you do not need to replace both every single time.
