“How do I open the lid to get to the ink cartridges? The top to the scanner/coier opens fine, but not the next lid down. I've tried for several weeks to get it open, to no avail.”

You are lifting in the wrong place. On the top right of the lid you will see a small tab that sticks out just below the scanner lid. Lift that and it will expose all the ink cartridges. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Be sure all the packing tape was removed...the tab/handles on either side immediately below the scanner should open the access easily when using both hands.

I confess this one fooled me for several minutes. There are a couple of smallish, innocuous tabs near the front, on top, on the sides. Pick up with those and open she does.
