Again, google for all types of cables, connectors (ends), brands, and quality/price. Be sure to look at the reviews. Some are cheaply made. Some have gold plated connectors. This printer needs a " USB 2.0 A-Male-to-B-Male printer cable." Prices as low as $5 for a 6-foot; to $22 for a 10-foot Gold Plated The one that came boxed with my original HP printer is a Belkin 10-foot and has lasted for years. I find by googling, cables are available that connect your I-pad, your I-phone, etc. directly to this printer with a USB mini cable like the one pictured below. [4-pin type A USB 2.0 female first end to 5-pin Type B Micro-USB 2.0 male second end]

Although it can be installed or used with a USB cable, you can “install” it to the computer, wirelessly. The software needs to be downloaded onto the computer. Out of the box, it comes with a cd for installation; however, it's recommended not to use that, but get the most recent updates. Get the printer set up, turned on, ink cartridges and paper installed. Set it near the modem/router. Then get on your computer, type 123.hp.com in your address bar. It will download and install the software, wirelessly. It should work. If not, trouble shoot with HP or Best Buy’s Geek Squad service. Mine worked fine but would not print initially. it was solved by Geek. I've used it for 3 weeks now and it’s working as intended.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Oops. The USB mini cable I mentioned on the 28th (see photo below) is a male to FEMALE. However, the printer has a USB 2.0 Male-A port. So attach a Printer Cable (USB 2.0 Male-A to 2.0 Male-A) to this mini cable for printing from SMART PHONEs. Attach the phone to this (USB 2.0 Mini Male-A to FEMALE-B) cable; to which attach the second cable(USB 2.0 Male-A to Male-A Printer Cable). Thus, Phone > Male mini Male-A/Female-B cable > USB 2.0 Male-B/Male-A Printer Cable > Printer. Ask Radio Shack for compatible 4 or 5 plug connectors. Note, this type of second cable is also used to hook this printer (wired) to a desktop or laptop, so it has dual purposes.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a USB 2.0 cable with a type A connector and a type B on the other. Type A is the standard oblong shape; type B is the squarish one.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need need a Male to Male (M/M) USB 2.0 for PC/Mac. If you have a wireless network in your home you can hook it up without the cable and your computer does not need a wireless card to communicate with it if it is on the network.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's a wireless printer / wireless PCP installation. No USB cable required.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a USB A to B cable.
