According to HP's website (manual, which I'll link in a bit, and hopefully it will be allowed), the models in this line have 8GB (2 x 4GB sticks), 8GB (1 x 8GB stick) or 6GB (1 x 2GB and 1 x 4GB sticks). "Two non-accessible/upgradable memory module slots" although it says it supports up to 16GB of total system memory... so you do the math on that as none of their stock configurations are more than 8GB (and I suppose they say non-upgradable, for someone not willing to possibly void their warranty and maybe break their system in the process I guess) In actuality, there are 2 memory slots inside. Getting to them requires removing the entire bottom plate off the laptop. There are some videos showing this procedure online. Here's the manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04686890

The drive is also replaceable, but you have to detach one of the front speakers to properly open the cage that holds it. Keep in mind that the 6GB model of this laptop has 1 x 2GB and 1 x 4GB stick, but it does in fact, run in dual-channel mode, at least a hybrid style dual-channel mode, as reported by CPU-Z, but more RAM is always a good thing.
