• I am not sure about checks, but it uses the following cartridge for printing; HP 141A Black LaserJet Toner Cartridge (~950 pages), W1410A

• Jimmy, magnetic ink is no longer required for checks. Banks use optical scanners, Regular black toner is just fine.
