Great question. The touch screen does have an option to scan a document straight from the printer. You will be able to scan to email, network folder, or USB. The duplex copying means that you can make copies of multiple sheets and it will PRINT out double-sided. It will not scan double sided documents automatically. You will have have to manually flip over the pages to scan the 2nd side of a 2-sided document. If you are interested in a printer that can automatically scan both sides of a 2-sided document, I recommend looking into the OfficeJet Pro 8620 or 8630, OfficeJet Pro X476dw, OfficeJet Pro X576dw, LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdw, or the Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw.
