Because laser printers use a powdered toner, smearing really isn't an issue unless there's a problem with the toner cartridge. If you're going to use it to print photos, make sure that you're using photo paper made for a laser printer. The photo paper made for an inkjet will not work properly because of the heat from the fuser that melts the toner into the paper. That heat will ruin conventional photo paper.
