There is a tray 1 that pulls out in the very front. The tray door opens at an angle toward you, and you place your letter sized paper in it. There is also a support panel that can be pulled up to support the paper. The printer setup will allow the machine to sense the paper size when printing documents and will pull paper from tray 1 or tray 2 based on paper size.
