The printer does indeed go into sleep mode, but I just tested it and it does wake when I printed from my iPhone.

You can set it to automatically shut down after 2, 4 or 8 hours (soft shut down, not full manual power down - take 1 kwh of power which is very little while in this mode). From this mode, I have sent a print command from my ipad and the printer powers up (quickly) and prints the pages with no interference from me. This is different than sleep mode which happens after 1, 5, 15, or 30 minutes. Sleep mode it gets quiet and uses less energy but not shut down. Same result, however...you can print and it will accept the print job.
