It comes with a starter set of ink in black and the 3 colors. The number of the cartridge is HP902. I only use and buy HP ink although I think you can get other brands but I wouldn't want to mess up the printer by using off-brands in it. The quality is in HP ink. You made a wise choice in buying an HP product.

If you would like a printer with a two cartridge system and like having the document feeder and fax capabilities like the 6968 you should look at the HP Envy 5255 or the HP Envy Photo 7855!
