“will this machine work w/ a answering machine on the same lin but different rooms? if i have an answer machine on the same line but separate area, how do i make sure the the fax goes to the fax and the calls go to the phone? will this work automaticly”

Yes. Once you have the printer connected and the software installed, open the "HP Printer Assistant" and select "Fax setup Wizard". The wizard asks if you have a phone line on the same line as the fax and will also work with an answering machine that is on the same line as the fax. :-)
