I did see the option to scan to desktop although I did not scan to desktop, I chose email. And for 2nd question I used the printer select to scan. Hope this helps

Yes, the Officejet Pro 9125e can scan files to a folder on the PC by using the HP Software that you've downloaded to the PC, or the embedded web server (EWS). This feature is available even if you did not install the printer software on your computer. You can scan using the printer controls.
