The motherboard is the machine. Replacing the motherboard in a computer is like replacing the engine and entire drivetrain of a car - all you've kept is the metal shell and maybe a few accessories. So yeah, while you *can* upgrade the motherboard, you'd also be upgrading the CPU, RAM, probably GPU.. you're better off buying a whole new box.
