There is a trend to eliminate optical drives on all PCs, in favor of USB drives, which are faster and can store more, but while this makes some sense in laptops, it is less reasonable for desktops. Some people still like the convenience of being able to watch a movie they went to the trouble to purchase on their computer. There are still some desktops with this feature, so search if you need it, or buy an external drive (about $20 and up--you might even spring for a Blu Ray player).
