Replacing an SSD is, " .. relatively complex computer surgery?" For your grandmother perhaps. Open up the laptop - screwdriver required. Unplug battery ribbon connecter. Remove your SSD then replace with new SSD (clone the original, if you want). Reconnect battery. Close case. Complex .... not. Or you could just get an SATA-SSD and use the available slot.

If you're not familiar with how to do it, I'd _strongly_ suggest that you have the Geek Squad to the replacement. It's relatively complex computer surgery.
