“I've had this desktop for a couple of weeks and want to know if I can use my camera's SD card in the card slot, as the slot is larger than the card. I don't want to try and get it stuck in there! And if it doesn't fit, what are my options?”

I am thinking that your camera actually takes a micro SD card??? If so, you need an adapter that you put it into, and then it fits in the SD slot on your computer. Lots of times when you buy a micro SD card, the adapter is included with it.

It could be that slot also accommodates larger cards of some kind, but I am only speculating about that. You just push your card in with the notched corner on the top and the gold pins facing to the right, and just pull it out when you're done. There is no clicking/locking mechanism - it slides in and out very easily. It doesn't allow you to put it in the wrong way. If you compare the flat end of you card (which you cannot insert) with the slot, you see that the slot is only slightly larger than the card. There isn't any wiggle room to speak of.
