“So, my kid (12) wants to move from XBox One to a PC. Would this be close to similar in gaming experience? At least with 1080p? (He doesn't have a 4k monitor and don't see that happening anytime soon.) Maybe future upgrade for RAM/SSD and GPU.”

This won't do well at all for games without adding a $150+ video card. That said, the power supply may need to be upgraded and the case may not be big enough for a full sized video card. Also 8GB is pretty lite for modern games so you'd eventually want to buy another 8GB (or 16GB) stick of RAM. Basically you're buying too much CPU and not enough video rendering power for video games. Look at systems with i5 cpus to find what you're looking for at a reasonable price, and if you need to buy upgrades ala carte, do some searching on the internet for computer hardware retailers.
