Q: QuestionHi, considering buying this computer but would like to upgrade the RAM and also add a 2nd HD. Can someone recommend compatible RAM that is a good value? Also, it seems like only a SATA HD can be added - does anyone have any suggestions for this as well?
Asked by Jeffrey.
- A:Answer There are two slots for memory (RAM). 32GB (2 x 16GB DDR4) is the maximum memory allowed. It comes with the 8GB memory (Samsung, Model # M378A1K43DB2-CTD). I added the Samsung 16GB memory (model # M378A2K43CB1-CTD). Now my new HP TP01-0034 computer is lighting fast with the i7 CPU and 24GB memory. Adding the extra memory was very easy. It is also easy to install an internal hard drive. I installed the Western Digital 2TB Black internal hard drive (model # WD2003FZEX) in mine. HP has 18 videos online on how to remove and add the internal components for the TP01-0034 computer @ https://supportvideos.ext.hp.com/detail/video/6074300588001/how-to-replace-the-front-bezel-for-hp-pavilion-desktop-tp01-000?q=TP01-000

Q: QuestionCan I put a MSI GeForce GTX 1050 video card in here or is the case to small to fit one?
Asked by BakedMuffinMan.
- A:Answer No you cannot put any video card in this computer. There is a slot for one but the power supply cannot support a video card of any sort. Further bad news is that the power supply is proprietary and so you can't simply replace the power supply and add a video card. I had no idea about this until after I bought it and contacted HP. Don't even ask about how horrible the customer service is at HP these days. Sell your stock - they are out of business but don't know it yet. They better be selling the heck out of printers.

Q: QuestionI was wanting to install a video card like a rx550 or gtx1030 and was wondering if they would work with the 180w power supply. If not is there a different hp power supply I can install into this case, being they are proprietary to hp. One with 350-450w.
Asked by JoshB.
- A:Answer Yes, graphics cards like an rx550 or gtx1030 should work, because they only require the power supplied by the PCIe bus connector, and do not require additional power from 12V jumpers (jumpers are not provided in this system). The stock 180W power supply budget allows for the maximum PCIe-only power demand. As of this date HP does not offer a larger power supply option for this system. Elsewhere in the Best Buy questions, HP Support said they did, but I suspect that is incorrect because there is absolutely no information published by HP on what specific part to buy or how to perform such a swap yourself. Some have suggested that HP repair parts are available with compatible connections and larger wattage, but that will likely cost about 100 bucks and so it's not cost effective compared to just buying a more upgradable system to start with. If you search YouTube for "Pavilion PSU updgrade" you will find some examples of people attempting to upgrade the power supply in this or similar systems. The general conclusion is that it is a risky and expensive proposition because of the non-standard parts involved. See my answer to the Best Buy question, "Are you saying definitively a standard-sized ATX power supply can't be used", which I answered in some more pessimistic details.
