• Yes. You will need to sign up with a GSM-based carrier (network) such as AT&T or T-Mobile. Note: It will not work with Verizon.(NS)

• You will need a carrier for any cell phone. This phone accepts a sim card (two, in fact) so it is compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T. I would imagine it would work with Straight Talk, too, if you have their starter pack.
