“The instruction manual mentions a lid in the diagram and also to add oil to some foods. However, I can't find anything in the manual as to where you're supposed to add the oil. How does the lid open? That seems like some important info left out.”

The lid (door) opens towards you, just like a regular oven. There is no top lid to the unit; only the door. Since there are no recipes included with this Air Fryer Oven, I would go with doing whatever your recipe says to do regarding adding any type of liquids into the preparation process, which usually occurs outside of the air fryer itself. Once the prepared food is placed inside the air fryer oven, it is expected that some liquid mix will drip down into the catch pan during cooking - that's why a drip pan is included in the package. For recipes that require a solid cooking dish (e.g. scalloped potatoes, mac and cheese) I find that the Anchor brand glass 6 cup and 3.75 cup dishes work well. Hope this helps!
