The user community is 'all over the map" regarding how loud or quiet this shredder is, so for the last time, I would appreciate the definitive answer from Insignia Support or the manufacturer. Someone should have the correct answer ! The noise level is important to many, if not most buyers, including me. If a machine, appliance, whatever, is annoying to use, I would not use it very often and be dissatisfied with not only the manufacturer, but the company I bought it from, so my choice would be to avoid both of these entities altogether !”

The decibel output from this device is acceptable. However, I would not sit too close for prolong periods of time. 5 minute intervals is my suggested max.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is a very late response, but just purchased the shredder and used for first time two days ago. You likely received a million different responses because it varies on the persons tolerance level. I can say I have a child who is on the spectrum so have to be careful with sound levels (i.e., TV can be no more than at a 4 level from 10 the loudest). I would rate the sound level on this machine a 6 to 6 1/2 and it is tolerable to my son. Also understand when you turn the shredder on there is no noise. There is only a noise when you shred the document or credit card and then silent.
