• If I understand your comments correctly, the Control knob released a spark when you tried to adjust it? This sounds like a short in the wiring. If so, and it is still under warranty, contact Best Buy about a replacement.

• Is it sitting on carpet by chance? If so you are restricting the airflow to the compressor.
