“I love this air conditioner. Is it best to remove during the winter months? I live in Midwest. If it will be ok to leave in the window what is the best way to protect it from the winter weather? I don’t want to hurt the way it works for next summer.”

You can get an AC cover. They have them available, but because this is a longer unit, I'm not sure. You can buy a thermal wrap (weatherproof 'blanket' of sorts) and have someone install it for you and remove it in the Spring.

Please put plywood over the top of the unit only to shield from snow and ice, weighing it down with bricks or rocks to keep in place.
