“I have triple track aluminum storm windows and wood windows. The window itself is 24" wide, but because of the tracks for the storms, the outermost opening is about 20". Is this ok and will this unit crush the bottom track?”

You should be fine. As long as the mounting bracket is installed correctly the unit will not harm your window tracks because the weight sits on the wall support that comes with it.
