“I tried connecting my laptop to a USB port on my desktop, but it won't print that way. So, I have to remove my printer cable from my desktop & plug it into my laptop. If I plug this device into my desktop, will it allow me to plugin both devices?”

I have not used it for a printer as all my printers are wireless. However, I have used this device to operate more than one thumb drive at a time, so I imagine it will work fine for you.
