Get an inexpensive sound bar.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Kat, I have found that during commercials ALL televisions get very loud! (I have a high-end Sony TV that does the same thing.) It is the stations that broadcast them louder on purpose. I usually just hit the "mute" button if I have to sit through a commercial. I have a suggestion how to check whether it is the television itself that has a problem or if it is the tv station: put on one of those home shopping networks and see if the sound fades in and out then. Usually those channels stay the same volume. I have two Insignia TVs (a 32" I bought a little over 2 years ago, and this 40" that is about a month old) and I haven't found this issue with either of them. As to the fading out issue, there are certain television programs that we have to put the closed-caption on to understand what the people are saying because the voices are lower than the background sounds (including my Sony TV)! Hope this helps you. Happy New Year!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It has to do with your cable box. Does not happen by digital antenna or video games

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Compared to models a few years old, the sound is great. By law commercials are not supposed to be louder but that seems to ignored sometimes. Some shows pump up sound on gun fire and music, only to drop when people are speaking. Happens in movie theaters.
