The door itself does not "lock" down and anyone with even the slightest bit of strength could open it from the inside. I have seen some of these freezers vacuum seal pretty tight when hot air gets trapped in an already cold freezer. Although they seal really tight and make it difficult to lift up, this wouldnt be a problem lifting up on the lid from the inside. More leverage space. I hope this helps with your question.
