“The thermostat turns a little to the right for low and a little to the left for high. I tried calling customer service to see if this is how the thermostat works as most thermostats go clockwise in increments. They were not able to help me.”

Clockwise (to the right) lowers the temperature. I bought an inexpensive freezer temperature gauge and adjusted it to maintain zero degrees, it about 2/3 of the way to Max cooling.
