“Bought this freezer and plugged it in. Put two bags of ice and some frozen potatoes in it. Was on middle of setting and it sat overnight and the ice started to thaw. Is that normal? Its about 46 degrees in garage. Does not seem to get cold enough.”

The directions clearly state you should let the unit sit for at least 24hours before plugging in and using, in order for the coolant system adjust to its environment BEFORE USING. The ice melting would be normal at first, but the unit would probably become cold enough after a couple of hours.

But, I have NOT had any issues with items melting or it not being cold enough. Have you turned the setting knob to its coldest. I do not think your problem is normal. Would likely return it, and buy another. Mine works perfectly.
