“It's been rattling non-stop since I plugged it in. I looked in the guide and they say it's normal, but it's still really irritating. Is it really normal and does it go away after the first 48 hours or hopefully sooner?”

Not sure what would rattle. Mine is quiet.

However, if it's very loud, metallic sounding, or it does not go away after a couple of days it could be a problem with the unit.
