Although this cable is terminated with standard RCA plugs, it is not a standard RCA cable. This is a shielded coax cable intended for digital signals, not the line-level (analog) signals for which regular RCA cables are designed. This cable would be used, for example, to connect a DAC (digital to analog converter) to a stereo or home theater reciever.

Its cable is of the shielded variety to keep out noise but they are not the same. You will need this cable if the output source is truly a digital audio out.
