Q: Just bought a new Sony 4 k Blu-ray player. It does not have the optical input that I use. Does the digital coaxial Cable replace this for sound?

A: Yes actually both are digital, just different medium. And overkill for the low bandwidth of sound.

Q: I need to connect the digital audio cable (coaxial)to HDMI

A: This cable will not work for that application

Q: Can this be used to connect a Bose 5-1 soundbar with an RCA tv that only has a digital output cable that doesn't have a toslink base or does it need to be RCA brand only?

A: Connectors are universal by type, not brand. As long as it is a coax connector, you will be fine. Does your TV have a digital coax out? It will be orange, like the soundbar. If your TV has a different out for external speakers, there are converters available that may work just fine. I use it to connect a Sony Bluray player with a digital coax out to speakers that have a red/white input. I just had to buy a converter to change the coax signal into the red/white. There are convertors that do the opposite as well and ones for other cable types.

Q: I need to connect a Sony Blu Ray player to my Audio/video control receiver (Onkyo TX-DS747) for my home theater which has no HDMI input, but does have a digital coaxial input. Will this work?

A: My Sony Bluray player only has a coax out for external speakers and an hdmi that will carry both sound and audio to the TV. I use this cable to connect to external speskers just fine with no problems. A quick look up and it looks like your receiver has a coaxial input so you should be golden.
