The connection cable has nothing to do with your screen. I am not sure what you mean by your "screen will not open". I guess your computer doesn't boot (start). If so then you need to fix your computer. The USB cable has nothing to do with it. If your computer does not work and cannot be fixed you may be able to salvage your files by taking out the hard drive from your computer, put it into another computer that uses the same type of hard drive and has an empty slot where your hard drive can be placed. Then you will transfer your files from your hard drive on that other computer to an USB drive. Whether you will need another cable to connect the USB drive to that other computer depends on which cable comes with your USB drive.
