What you need for the external drive is a regular "A" to "B" / Male USB to Female USB cable, and is a fraction of this cost. This cable is designed specifically for PC to PC file transfers and has an "A" / Male USB connector on both ends, with a box in the middle of the cable that contains the software to support the file transferring.
