  • QuestionI just purchased the Insignia 7 cu. ft. Garage ready freezer. I wanted to know how would I defrost the freezer if I needed to?

    Asked by Noblelord.

    • Answer Hi Noblelord! To defrost the Insignia 7 cu. ft. garage ready freezer, follow these steps: 1. Unplug the freezer from the power source to ensure safety. 2. Remove all items from the freezer and transfer them to another cooler or storage area. 3. Place towels or a shallow pan at the bottom of the freezer to collect the melting ice. 4. Leave the freezer door open to allow the ice to melt naturally. You can also use a hairdryer on a low setting to speed up the process. 5. Once all the ice has melted, clean the interior of the freezer with a mild detergent and warm water to remove any residue. 6. Dry the interior of the freezer thoroughly before plugging it back in and returning the food items. It is recommended to defrost your freezer at least once a year or when the ice build-up is more than 1/4 inch thick. • QuestionIf I pick up at store can I lay the box down in my car. Will I need to let it sit Upright for a few hours before I turn it on etc? whats the deal thanks.

    Asked by Jamesiii.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! When transporting the Insignia™ - 7 Cu. Ft. Garage Ready Upright Convertible Freezer, it's generally recommended to keep it upright. However, if you need to lay it down in your car, you can do so, but there are a few important steps to follow. First, make sure to lay it on its side, not on its back or front, to avoid damaging the compressor. After transporting it on its side, let the freezer sit upright for at least 4 hours before plugging it in. This waiting period allows the refrigerant to settle back into the compressor, ensuring the freezer operates correctly and efficiently. Following these steps will help maintain the appliance's performance and longevity. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask! Keith | Insignia Support

  • QuestionI don’t see a door handle. Do you just pull anywhere? Thank you.

    Asked by Susan.

    • Answer Lack of handle can be a nuisance since to open you have to hold the top with one hand (there's like a little slit for people to grab) and pull the door while you sort of push the fridge/freezer part with the other hand. It is sometimes dificult to open when the suction is extremely tight. I hope this helps. Basically, opening takes two hands and a push pull motion.

  • QuestionUnderneath the drawer on the bottom, there is a small hole---What is this for? If it is a drain hole for condensation or defrosting, where does the water go? Is there a tray underneath the fridge/freeze? How do you clean where the water goes?

    Asked by MichaelL.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry! The small hole underneath the drawer at the bottom of your Insignia™ 7 Cu. Ft. Garage Ready Upright Convertible Freezer is indeed a drain hole for condensation and defrosting. When the freezer defrosts, the water drains through this hole and typically collects in a drip tray located underneath the unit. This tray helps to evaporate the water over time. To clean the area where the water collects, you should first locate the drip tray, which is usually accessible from the back or bottom of the unit. Carefully slide out the tray, being cautious as it might contain water. Empty any water and clean the tray with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry it thoroughly before placing it back. Regular cleaning of the drip tray helps maintain the efficiency of your freezer and prevents any unpleasant odors. • QuestionMy power is out due to severe weather. How many watts does this deep freezer use? I’m looking into purchasing a generator.

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer The Insignia™ 7 Cu. Ft. Garage Ready Upright Convertible Freezer typically uses around 296 kilowatt-hours per year. Given there are 8,760 hours in a year: However, this is an average consumption. The actual power usage can vary depending on factors like the ambient temperature and how often the door is opened. For generator sizing, it's also important to consider the starting wattage, which can be higher than the running wattage. A generator with a capacity of at least 500 watts should be sufficient to handle the initial surge when the freezer starts up. Stay safe during the severe weather!
