I was disappointed to find this out after purchase. The only way to provide external power is with a power brick and usb-c cable to provide the additional power, so not really a nice portable option. You are better off with the short usb-c to USB adapter that Apple makes if you are plugging in usb stuff only. If you are using on a desktop, then the extra cord and power supply neede to use all of the ports, might not be a big deal.
