• Yes, you can clearly see and read license plates in the video footage if the vehicle is less than 1 car length away. Unfortunately, after 1 car length the ability to read plates significantly drops. At night, light can impede the ability to read the plates slightly. For the price I am happy with the result. Please see attached photos for examples.

• There are a couple factors for this question, however, the quick answer is Yes. Depending on time of day, and if the car in front of you has plate-lights, also the recording settings. Be sure you are set for QUALITY, not quantity.
