No it needs to be plugged in to the car lighter. Screen turns off after a few seconds from starting your car but as long as the led is on it means it is recording. Everything is saved to the memory card. You can see them on your computer using a card reader.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can't answer most of your questions with certainty but I may be able to help a little. I mounted this camera in my grandsons car and I have a microSD memory chip that is inserted in the right side of the camera (if you're looking at the display) I push in and pop this out and take it to my Windows 10 PC and it reads out the trip video in 3 minute files date and time stamped automatically. When it "saves" an event in the memory card it won't erase it by looping over old footage or if you reformat to clear the memory. There really is no need to reformat because when the memory gets full the camera erases old video footage to make room for the new video being made. I know that there is an internal battery and I have the camera set to record any emergency events like someone hitting the car but I haven't had it record any emerg. events as of yet. I like this camera for the price and the rear facing and microphone are nice too.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This camera needs power to work. The camera is recording when the lights are on. "Saving event" will be saved in the emergency file. When your dash cam is not recording, press "V" button to enter play back mode, open the emergency files from there.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mine doesn't work once the car is switched off. Even with the charger plugged in for a lot of hours. When it saves an "Event" I think it saves to the "Emergency" folder on your Memory Card. As far as I know, you can only view it on your pc.
